Calling las artistas, tech girls and anyone else interested in using the web for fun with friends. Latinitas annual summer camp at the Mexican American Culture Center downtown (600 River St.) is closing out with its last session: Design and Web Divas – July 28-Aug. 6. This last session will be a balance of web design, graphic arts and even some traditional Latino studio arts including comic strip art and some graffiti caligraphy. | BEST BUY AWARDS LATINITAS | |

In an an effort to educate young Latinas about technology and related professional opportunities, staff from Austin's Best Buy stores, the new Mueller branch and existing Brodie lane store, donated hours of volunteer service this past Spring. As a result, Latinitas was recently awarded a Best Buy community service award by the company's local human resource department. Latinitas is grateful for all that Best Buy does to support the instruction of young Latinas in technology. | |

| PATRICIA VONNE HELPS PRINT LATINITAS (8/1) | |

On Friday August 1st, Latina musician Patricia Vonne and a line-up to be named will be performing a benefit concert at Jovitas Restaurant to raise money to publish the first issue of Teen Latinitas in print, scheduled for release on Sept. 13, 2008. Doors open at 7pm and the show goes until midnight. $10 There will also be a silent auction of professional and youth photography reflecting Latino life. | |

At the end of June, Latinitas joined the City of Austin's Health and Human Services department and Family Connections of Austin for the first annual iChoose conference, focused on providing teens pertinent information on relationships, sexuality, family dynamics and sustance abuse. Latinitas volunteered its documentary skills creating a video blog (vlog) of teen's expectations prior to the start of the conference and then a summary of what they learned following the morning's break out sessions. |

| LATINITAS EL PASO | |

Congratulations to Latinitas El Paso for earning a Texas Girls Collaborative grant, a product of STEM (Science, Technology and Engineering and Medecine) career development. This grant will faciltate a series of tech workshops for girls. Our "west coast" of Texas affiliate was also selected to be the beneficiary of the El Paso's Dos Mundos Bi-national Photo Project. Thousands of photographers are assigned to photograph El Paso and Juarez, Mexico(ergo the Dos Mundos moniker) within a 24 hour period (8/8 - 8/9)to document "life." Registration proceeds will be given to Latinitas. Lastly, Latinitas El Paso is hosting its first summer camp in cooperation with UTEP's journalism program. Beginning 9/13 at the MACC with Corpus Christi's pop sensations La Conquista, the series start will also be the launch of Teen Latinitas in print.
